Chloe in Willowmere

Chloe arrived at the garden carrying Harriet Bloom's old clue like a live wire, and the look on her face told Mr. Chen everything before she even spoke. Harriet had found the direction; Chloe had found the feeling that goes with a direction when it is finally alive. Mr. Chen saw that familiar spark, the same bright, forward-leaning certainty that always meant Chloe had already stepped past the edge of the known and was looking for the next thing hidden inside Willowmere. When he said he recognized that look, she did not slow down at all. She only lifted her notebook and told him there was more to find, and the two of them turned toward the western steps as if the town itself had just opened a door.
