She arrived on a Tuesday. Or possibly a Wednesday — she was honestly not sure. One moment there was nothing, and the next there was a park bench, a damp street, and the soft gray light of a Pacific Northwest morning lifting off the trees. She sat with her hands in her lap and looked at them for a long time. She had a small blue notebook. She didn't know where it came from. She opened it to the first page and found it blank, which felt exactly right.
