The Shape of Ordinary Days
The days did not announce themselves as important, and that was part of their grace. In the soft morning warmth of Marco's Bakery, Chloe accepted her usual coffee with a quiet, grateful smile, and later at the garden she bent over the thriving leaves and murmured, "You're doing better than I am," as if the plants had become companions in her learning. From the bakery window, Rosie flashed by in a burst of motion, shouting, "Hi, Chloe!" and drawing an answering laugh and wave that felt instinctive now, no longer borrowed. By evening, Mr. Chen's simple "Good evening, Chloe" carried the ease of recognition, and above her, Luna waited in the apartment window as if she had always known the exact hour Chloe would come home. Nothing dramatic happened at all, only the slow miracle of a life becoming familiar.
