The Case Goes Cold
Detective Park did not enjoy loose ends, and the marigold case had more than its share of them. He told Chloe the case was officially 'unresolved,' and she watched him stare at his corkboard with the kind of frustration that comes from loving a puzzle you can't solve. Outside the precinct, the neighborhood carried on — but the flowers kept appearing, smaller now, stranger, always just out of frame. Luna, perched on the bakery windowsill that evening, seemed to watch the street with an expression that suggested she had answers no one had thought to ask her. Chloe wrote it all down in her notebook. Someone had wanted them to have something, she reasoned. They just hadn't wanted to be found. That was a kind of mystery too.
