Detective Park had a plan. It involved a trilby hat, a very serious expression, and the unwavering conviction that these two things together constituted an airtight disguise. He arrived at the Willowmere Heights open house and proceeded to collect everything that was not nailed down — floor plans, branded pens, a tote bag, a coffee mug, a keychain, and a rubber duck the developer's marketing team had apparently decided was on-brand. The sales agent watched him with the polite, puzzled smile of someone who had decided this was above her pay grade. When he arrived at Chloe's door that evening and dumped the entire haul onto her kitchen table, she stared at it for a long moment. The floor plans were genuinely useful. The rubber duck, Detective Park explained with complete sincerity, was evidence.
