A landed-cost comparison contraption

The Book
Bargain Desk

Used books hide their true price in postage, condition, and temptation. Put every offer on the desk and let the ink do the arithmetic.

Reader’s rule: the cheapest sticker price is not always the cheapest book.

Compare the whole story.

Enter prices from any shops you like. The desk adds shipping, converts condition into a modest “risk cost,” and names the best value. Everything stays in this browser.

THE DESK
HAS SPOKEN

Add two offers to begin.

We will compare landed price and condition, without pretending a waterlogged paperback is identical to a handsome hardback.

How the desk judges: landed price = book + shipping. The value score adds a condition risk of 0% for like new, 5% for very good, 12% for good, and 25% for acceptable. Use the plain total when every copy is truly equivalent.

Inspired by Jon’s “BookFinder” post, and the small thrill of finding a $21 book for $6.
